Magnificent Manor
What to expect
Step back in time into this stately century farmhouse suffused with history and restored to modern function. Originally built around 1863 by Henry Fittons, it was named Gawsworth, after a town in England. It is set on a nearly four-acre lot and features nine bedrooms and seven fireplaces.
Sturdily built with triple brick walls, the home is two stories in one area and three in another. Original, beautifully restored floors are found throughout as are many striking art pieces from the Cloud Gallery in Orillia.
Enter into what was once the farm workers’ area at the back of the home and pass through a spacious mudroom into a lovely, bright family room with an original raised hearth fireplace.
Moving into the main house, take in the stately hallway, resplendent with an impressive chandelier, regal wainscotting, and unique herringbone flooring. The stunning kitchen and cozy adjacent dining and sitting room are all brightly lit from huge windows that abound throughout the home. Across the hallway is a more formal dining area and parlour.
On the third floor there are several charming guest rooms as well as the owners’ offices.
On the second floor, explore the majestic primary suite as well as several more gorgeously appointed guest rooms.
When you exit the home, proceed around the house via the porch to view the original front of the home from the vast lawns and savour the idyllic gardens on the far side.
